Visit to the Azerbaijan Maritime Academy
On 15–17 October 2019, a delegation from the Nizhny Novgorod Region Shipbuilding Cluster visited the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy (Baku)
Due to the complexity of arranging a trip for representatives of nearly 40 cluster enterprises, it was decided to organize the visit for representatives of the “deck” and “electrical” fields, as well as companies involved in developing vessel types that are little known to Azerbaijani colleagues and future shipbuilding engineers.
Companies represented in the delegation and presentation topics:
“Flot” — a range of air-cushion vessels.
“SiTech” — marine hydrofoil vessels, design technologies, philosophy and mechanisms for working with equipment manufacturers.
“SSSR” — design, manufacture, supply, and servicing of deck, lifting, and crane equipment.
VID — the concept of vessel power supply; integrator of all components in the electrical, navigation, communications, and automation disciplines. The integrator’s end product is an operational system based on its own main switchboards, other power distribution equipment, and navigation console. The state-of-the-art level and complexity of the tasks addressed were demonstrated through the unique technical solutions of the power supply and ship power plant control system for the Neptun floating dock (Project 28140).
“RNK” — public address system, installation and commissioning of wheelhouse equipment, and the Ekoradar oil-spill monitoring and detection system, relevant to the Caspian Sea.
“SV Sfera” — achievements in marine automation based on successfully operating systems for the Neptun floating dock, which practically eliminate emergency situations involving docks, such as the accidents that occurred in the settlement of Slavyanka or with dock PD50. The dock hardware-and-software protection technologies throughout the entire docking cycle, starting with bringing a vessel in and placing it on keel blocks, including submerging, surfacing, and undocking operations, have proven their reliability and effectiveness over 5 years of operation, preventing at least two abnormal situations.
“MRS Electronics” — presentation of the company’s entire product range. Developments in fire protection attracted particular interest.
“SudoSvet” — the most successful participant in the visit; the company received a proposal to supply lighting equipment for tankers and ferries under construction in Azerbaijan.
The overall focus of the presentations was to demonstrate the principle whereby equipment suppliers and manufacturers, by participating in the design process, significantly reduce project timelines and improve project quality.
During the meeting with the Academy’s management, topics concerning the creation of modern teaching aids, test stands, simulators, and imitators were also raised. Prospects for cooperation between the Maritime Academy and the Nizhny Novgorod Technical University and VGUVT, which is also a member of the shipbuilding cluster, were discussed.
The discussion then moved from the Academy to the KaspMorNIIProekt Institute and subsequently to Caspian Shipyard.
As Azerbaijani colleagues have adopted the CADMATIC Marine Solution system as their standard, specialists from the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan examined the entire joint-work technology in detail during a practical seminar at KaspMorNIIProekt, using this CAD system as an example.
