What charging stations are used for

Batteries supply the main and auxiliary power plants of underwater systems. A charging station connects the power supply to the battery and must match its electrical parameters and charging modes. Equipment selection therefore starts with load requirements, rather than nominal current alone.

VID technical solutions

The VID portfolio includes charging stations rated at 3000 and 4000 A. Their conversion stages use thyristors, with 12- and 18-pulse circuits implemented. These specifications describe equipment configurations. They do not mean that every station operates in all the listed configurations simultaneously.

Matching equipment to the installation

Station development requires information about the battery, power source and permissible operating modes. The technical specification defines required current, output-voltage range, charging algorithm, monitoring functions and installation conditions. Pulse count and converter structure are considered within the installation’s overall electrical circuit.

From circuit design to testing

High-current equipment requires coordinated electrical and mechanical design. VID combines circuit development, automation and in-house manufacture. Load testing is among the company’s production capabilities and allows equipment to be checked before delivery. The test programme for each station is defined by project documentation.

Implementation experience

The VID catalogue names SSK PJSC and Sevmash Production Association JSC among customers in this field. For shipyard and operating specialists, this experience supports a practical discussion of charging-equipment requirements, integration with the power system and subsequent operation.

Which inputs are needed?

For a new project, it is useful to gather battery parameters, charging modes, supply-network characteristics, cooling and installation requirements, and the control-signal list in advance. These inputs help define the charging-station configuration and its interfaces with other systems. The company catalogue presents related electrical equipment.
